Cable management is what separates a job that gets you referrals from a job that gets you a callback. Exposed Cat6 stapled to a baseboard is the fastest way to tell a client "this is not a finished install." Wiremold has owned this category for almost a century because the system is modular, code-compliant, and — when you pick the right series — basically invisible once it's painted.
Here's how to choose the right Wiremold solution without ordering three series and returning two.
The four problems Wiremold solves (and the series that solve them)
Most AV jobs touch one or more of these four needs. Match the need to the series and you're done.
1. "I need to run cable across a finished wall without opening the drywall"
Use: 500, 700, or 2400 series surface raceway.
The 500 series is the smallest non-metallic raceway in the Wiremold lineup — perfect for single low-voltage runs in a classroom or huddle room. The 700 series is the workhorse: bigger capacity, more fittings, available in metal and PVC, paintable. The 2400 series (the "Evolution" line) is for larger runs where you need divided compartments to keep line voltage and low voltage separated — required by code in most jurisdictions when you're combining them in the same channel.
Field tip: Order extra couplings, internal elbows, and end caps. The raceway itself is cheap; the fittings are what you forget, and they're what shut down the install at 4pm on a Friday.
2. "I need power and data in the middle of a room without a floor box"
Use: Evolution Series Poke-Throughs (6AT, 8AT, RC series).
Poke-throughs cut into a finished concrete or wood floor and pop power, data, and AV connections up where you need them. The 6AT is the standard 6" round poke-through and handles most conference table builds. The 8AT gives you more device space for rooms that need HDMI, USB-C, and dual data. The RC series rectangular boxes are for high-density installs — boardrooms, training rooms, lecterns.
Field tip: Verify fire rating BEFORE you cut. Most commercial floors require a 2-hour fire-rated poke-through. The non-rated versions are cheaper and they will fail your inspection.
3. "I need a clean floor box for a conference table or huddle space"
Use: Evolution 4-Series or 6-Series Floor Boxes (recessed) or Resource Tabletop Boxes.
Recessed floor boxes are the right answer for new construction or any concrete pour you have access to. Wiremold's 6ATC is the high-runner SKU here — six gangs, fully configurable, fits most boardroom builds. For retrofit where you can't pour concrete, look at the Resource series tabletop boxes that drop into a hole cut in the table itself. They flip up when needed and disappear when they're not.
Field tip: Spec the bezel finish to match the floor BEFORE the floor goes in. Brass on hardwood looks intentional. Brass on polished concrete looks like a mistake.
4. "I need a service pole from the ceiling to a desk or kiosk"
Use: 25DTP Series Tele-Power Poles.
Open-ceiling offices, retail kiosks, and trade-show-style installs all benefit from a service pole instead of a floor run. Wiremold's tele-power poles ship in standard heights, accept the same device plates as the rest of the Evolution system, and are dramatically faster to install than fishing cable across a tile ceiling.
The codes you can't skip
A few realities that catch new installers off guard:
- Separation matters. NEC requires physical separation between Class 1 (line voltage) and Class 2 (low voltage / AV / network) wiring. Either run them in separate raceways or use a divided-compartment raceway like the 2400 series.
- Plenum ceilings change everything. If you're running cable above a drop ceiling that's used as an air return, every cable you pull needs to be plenum-rated, and any raceway you use up there has specific requirements. Confirm with your local AHJ.
- Floor boxes need fire ratings in commercial slabs. Don't substitute residential or non-rated boxes to save money. It will not pass inspection and you will reinstall it.
Buying Wiremold without ordering twice
Two practical tips:
Confirm finish before you order. Wiremold parts come in ivory, white, gray, brass, brushed aluminum, and stainless. The wrong finish on a poke-through is a return. Returns on cable management are slow because they're often shipped in bulk freight.
Buy fittings in pairs (at minimum). Couplings, elbows, end caps, and device boxes are what get short-ordered. If the job calls for four elbows, order six. The extras cost less than a second trip.
Why we stock Wiremold at AV Outpost
Wiremold is a Legrand brand, and our parent business has been a Legrand stocking distributor for over ten years. That means we're not drop-shipping Wiremold from a warehouse three states away — the high-runner SKUs are in stock, MAP-priced, and shipping the same day if you order before 2pm Eastern.
If you're not sure which Wiremold series fits your install — especially on poke-throughs and floor boxes, where mistakes are expensive — send us a sketch or a photo of the space. We'll point you at the right SKU before you commit.
